Besides the traditional publishing framework, there is the alternative practice of self-publishing, which is deep-rooted in the history of book making. DIY culture has always been an act of defiance against any kind of oppression. (religious, political, sexual, etc). “Marginal Notes. Parallel Culture of Samizdat Publishing in the Soviet Union” presents a selected history of self-publishing within the Soviet Russia, and contains a number of examples of underground publications and its designers from the past century. The production of samizdat has a certain connection to the work of graphic designers. This book is a collection of interviews, essays, and memoirs, and an attempt to explore and present the samizdat publications, techniques and distribution strategies and to build a connection to graphic design. It was released as a graduation project of University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Title: Behind the Certain
Medium: Photo book
Size: 240 × 330 mm
Year: 2019
“Behind the Certain” is a project attempting to explore the relationship between city and theatre. Theatrical performance and the life of a city’s everyday routine have similarities in their repetitiveness. When it comes to the conÂcept of a stage, the curtain becomes a sepaÂraÂtion beÂtween fiction and reality. The way of documentation in this photobook is inspired by the concept of “Epic theatre” by the German playwrighter, theatre director and poet Bertold Brecht.
The central idea is about emÂpowering the specÂtators to watch criÂÂtiÂÂcally, rather than just leaning back in their seat and pasÂsively conÂsumÂÂing the performance. He uses diferrent meÂthods, such as breaks in the action, shifts of scenes and locations, showÂing the technics and mechanics of the prÂoduction, to make audiÂ-
ence aware, that it is not some illusion of reaÂlity, but something conÂstructed, artificial, that was put on purpose, because it was releÂvant
for the reality of the people watching it.
The book is a collection of photographs of the common Falschfaçade (false fronts), that
were taken in Moscow in 2019. These simulacra opens questions about the intersection of possible pasts, presents, or futures. The book is a walk through different sceneries of the
city, while attemptÂing to defamiliarize the exÂisting reality.

Medium: Wine Labels
Year: 2017
We designed four wine labels for a special ediÂtion called “TrinkvergnĂĽgen” (“Drinking PleaÂsure”) by the austrian winery DĂĽrnberg. WineÂmaking is an art. The wine-maker deveÂlops wines with each individual character, investing a lot of passion and ability. Therefore we chose to translate this process into an artistic lanÂguage. After experimenting with a multitude of abstract forms we have consistently reduÂced the selection. In the end, we chose the right shape for each of the four wines that best reÂpresents the character and the taste of the wine. The abstract forms are supposed to inÂspire the viewer’s imagination, and evoke associations, memories, and feelings — just like good wine does.
